Energy Saving

With energy costs rising out of control it's now more important than ever to make your home as energy efficient as possible.

One of the biggest differences you can make is to ensure that your double glazed windows and doors are performing well and are thermally efficient.

If you have draughty windows and doors the money you have used to heat your home is literally going out of the window (or door).

Draughty windows are caused by gaps in the seal between the frames. Along with a draught you may also notice increased sound from outside such as road noise or hear whistling of the wind through the gap.

Older types of double glazing or misted up glass can also let the heat escape from your home. Glass technology has moved on significantly in the last 10 years. Energy efficient glass is now the norm and is fitted into all new windows and doors as standard  to meet current regulations. You don't have to buy new windows to enjoy the benefits of modern double glazing as we can change just your glass to upgrade your windows and make them energy efficient.

Can your windows pass our card test?

Do your windows pass the card test?

Check that your windows are sealing properly, you can do this by running a credit or store card around the gap where the window opens.  The card should fit snuggly and remain in place when let go.  If the card is loose or falls out it means the window has a gap and will be noisy and draughty.

How can I save energy

Firstly check your windows. Look for any obvious signs of heat escaping such as gaps around where the window opens and any misted up double glazing as this will be a major source of heat loss.

Draught proofing - We supply and fit a range of draught excluders, weather seals and gaskets such as Q-LON memory foam seals to stop the draughts and retain the heat in your home.

Energy efficient glass - Ask us about our range of low emissivity glass which uses a special coating to maximise free energy from the sun and reflect the heat back into your home.

Fit trickle vents - By adding controllable background ventilation to your windows you will reduce the amount of condensation in your home.  Condensation is just moisture and moisture causes a damp and cold environment meaning you may suffer from mould and will cost you more to heat your home.
