Your questions answered

My Window is jammed and will not open.

A jammed window could be due to a failed lock mechanism, worn hinges or a broken handle. Fortunately these three items form part of our HHL Window Repair Service (Hinges Handle Lock)  and can be readily replaced leaving you with a fully functioning window complete with a 5 year guarantee.

Can you repair my misted up double glazed window?

Yes we can, although we don't actually repair your existing glass unit, as once it has misted up or as we call it "broken down" it means that it is no longer air tight, sealed.  The only way to guarantee that the window is fully repaired is to replace the defective glass unit. Don't worry your window frame will be left intact as we only replace the glass unit. Once replaced your window will be like new and the glass will carry a 10 year guarantee.

Why is my window so difficult to open and close?

The most common reason for windows to become difficult to open and close is worn or broken hinges. Replacement hinges are available for all window sizes and types.

Can I change the style or colour of my window or door handles?

Why not! a simple colour change is sometimes all that is needed to bring a fresh new look to your windows and doors. We have a huge range of styles and colours for all tastes and property types.

I have have a gap around my window and it's causing a draught.

Gaps around windows not only cause draughts, but also let the heat escape from your home which means your energy costs will be much higher.  Our HHL Window Repair Service (Hinges Handle Lock) will soon have your windows draught free and help to reduce your energy bills.

Can I change my window hinges to child safe hinges?

Essentially there is no such thing as child safe hinges. Restricted hinges are available, however restricting a window is potentially dangerous, so if you are wanting to restrict your windows please get in contact with us.

My window is really noisy, I can hear the wind and traffic from the road.

A noisy window means that it is not sealing correctly, you may hear traffic, wind whistling and other outside noises. This whilst being very annoying also means your windows are going to be draughty, which will cost you more to heat your home.  Our HHL Window Repair Service (Hinges Handle Lock) will soon silence your noisy window and save you money too.

Our windows are very old, do you repair older types of plastic windows?

Yes older windows are fully repairable.  Typically it's the mechanical elements of the window (hinges handle lock) that fail not the plastic window itself.  From our experience we find that some of the older plastic frames are actually far better quality than many new windows fitted today.  Once new hinges handles and locks are fitted your windows will be as good, if not better than new.

My window handle has snapped off.

Annoying but very common.  Snapping a window handle off can take some force.  Therefore this could mean that there is an under lying  problem with the hinges or locking mechanism.  It is best to let us carry out a full inspection of the window before you just replace the broken handle.

Is it possible to change my window hinges to fire escape hinges?

Absolutely it is. In fact we prefer to replace all side opening window hinges with fire escape (egress).  Having a means of escape gives everyone a peace of mind.

My door has dropped and is catching on the bottom.

This is one of the most common problems with Upvc doors. Luckily it is normally easy to resolve by arranging a door adjustment and service.  Please don't leave it until it gets worse as you could damage the door or break the lock.

Typically this means there is an alignment issue with the door.  Call us ASAP to arrange a door adjustment and service.  Don't wait until it gets worse as you could risk total failure of the locking mechanism resulting in you being locked in or out.

I have loose door handles, can they be tightened?

Yes, loose door handles are easily tightened.  However you should ask yourself why they have become loose in the first place, there is usually an underlying problem.  Are you having to slam the door to close it?  Has the door become difficult to lock?  Is it just the handle thats loose or the handle plate too?  Call us ASAP to arrange a door adjustment and service.

Can a cat flap be cut into my glass door?

Unfortunately we are unable to cut a a hole in your existing glass door.  The glass on all doors is manufactured from toughened safety glass that once produced is impossible to cut.  We can however, easily arrange for a new glass unit with a pre manufactured hole to be fitted.  We will just need the make and model of the cat flap you intend to install to ensure the correct size hole is made.  Just call us to discuss your requirements.
